Q: What are supervised and sponsored activities?
A: These are activities or events that schools,
teachers and volunteers participate in. They can be educational, recreational,
athletic, spiritual in nature. They are planned throughout the year and are
activities that are sponsored and supervised by the school. Overnight
Field Trips are covered only if the additional premium is paid.
Q: Who is covered?
A: Students and individuals identified by and on record
of the school as being a part of the activities covered and if premium is
received for them.
Q: What is Excess (or Secondary) Accident Medical Coverage?
A: This means that the policy pays after any other
insurance is payable. If no other insurance is available (Group, Individual,
Auto) this policy becomes Primary and pays the claims without Deductibles. Also
if there is other coverage this plan would pay out of pocket expenses such as
Deductibles and Co-insurance.
Q: Is travel in my personal auto covered under the
Accident Medical policy?
A: There is coverage under the Base Student Accident Medical Policy, on an
Excess basis, when traveling to or from a sponsored activity. Under the
Catastrophic Accident Policy, only travel that is paid for or reimbursed by the
school is covered.
Q: Who pays the claims?
A: The Base Student Accident claims are paid by Sentry
Life Insurance Company.
The Catastrophic Accident Medical claims are paid by Mutual of Omaha Special
Risk Services. See the Claims page for additional information.
Q: How are students and volunteers added or deleted to
these plans?
A: The insurance companies have assumed in their pricing
that the number of students and volunteers shown on the application will remain
constant throughout the policy term. No additional premium or refunds will be
made during the policy term. If your enrollment figures do
change by more than 10%, we ask that you please notify us in writing.
Q: If my school registers mid-year, will we get a
reduction in the cost?
A: For Student Accident coverage, the policy will terminate on the date the
Master Policy terminates (July 1) regardless of when you enroll. The
Catastrophic Accident policy will also terminate on July 1. All premiums paid are considered
fully earned premium.
Q: Will we receive a copy of the Policies.
A: Yes. Each school will receive a Policy(ies) which includes all details of
the coverage chosen. The Student Accident's Effective Date of coverage will
be shown on the letter that is sent with the policy documents. Each
school's policy is issued under a Master Policy which has the effective date of
July 1 and a termination date of July 1 the following year.
Q:
Are athletics covered under this plan?
A: Yes. All sports are covered if this option is chosen and premium is paid.
Q: How often do I pay the premiums?
A: Premium is paid once a year at initial enrollment.
Q: Why do we need this type of coverage?
A: In today's litigious society, every organization is vulnerable to
lawsuits. Base Student Accident Insurance provides valuable protection for
the students, and also serves as a buffer to protect the organization's General
Liability limits for catastrophic losses.
Q: Is there a discount for buying all coverages?
A: No. Each insurance coverage is written
by a separate policy by separate carriers and the rates are already fully discounted.
